“There is no dispute, Carnaby has an iconic heritage. From being the birthplace of Swinging London in the 1960’s, the home of Mods, Skinheads, Punks and New Romantics to the street style tribes of today. Carnaby has and always will be the epicentre of culture and lifestyle in London’s West End.” - Carnaby
Carnaby has always been the lifestyle destination for Mods all over the UK. To this very day there are several Mod fashion shops dotted around the area and every year in May, many Mod clubs come to together to show off their scooters and drive around London.
Earlier in May this year, the Mods came together in Carnaby Street and showcased their scooters to their public in the annual Buckingham Palace Ride Out, which always falls on the first Sunday of May. The Buckingham Palace Ride Out involves meeting at Carnaby Street, congregating for an hour or so and then riding out as a group to Buckingham Palace and then ending the journey at a pub in east London where awards are presented to members of the Ride Out. Our friends over at Sister London, who deal with a large portion of the PR for Soho approached us to document the occasion.
The resulting images were used in the Carnaby Magazine.
